While You Quarantined: Los Angeles, 2020

March 19, 2020: Los Angeles County entered a Covid lockdown. Roughly two months later, George Floyd was murdered by police in Minneapolis. In the months to follow, Andres Guardao, Anthony McClain, Dijon Kizzee, and Fred Williams III—all men of color—were shot in the back and killed by police. While most Angelenos quarantined through the pandemic, some simply couldn’t stay locked down and decided to protest to end police impunity.

Ricardo Miranda Bio

I was born & raised in Los Angeles, California to imigrante parents from Mexico and El Salvador. While in high school I developed a love for a photography and video. I attended Pasadena City College where I founded a Black and Brown unity slate that was unanimously elected into office. I served the student body as Vice President for Cultural Diversity. With a sustancial budget I was able to bring cultural speakers, workshops, and entertainment, from around the world to campus. I transferred to the CalArts school of photo and digital media in 2004, and received a BFA in 2008. I’ve been shooting fine art, editorial, street, and product photography internationally for 20 years. After CalArts I took on the site director position at a non-profit teen drop in center in Fillmore, Ca. I was able to make our site function as an Evening Reporting Center for teens on probation in Ventura county. This kept many teens from being incarcerated since previously they had to travel across Ventura county for services. I’m currently Teaching Street Photography at Oakwood School (Middle School) in North Hollywood.
